IHC 2026

Call for Papers

The Brazilian Symposium on Human Factors in Computer Systems (I H C) is the leading national event in the field of Human-Computer Interaction. It is classified by CAPES (Brazilian Federal Agency for Support and Evaluation of Graduate Education) in stratum A3 for the 2021-2024 period. Furthermore, it currently has an h5-index of 16 on Google Scholar and continues to grow rapidly.

There are three tracks for Full Papers: Innovative Ideas and Emerging Results, Research, and Experience Reports. These tracks follow the same schedule, and it will not be possible to switch between them after submission. Therefore, authors are requested to read and analyze the specific information for each track and submit their work to the one that is most appropriate.

All three Full Paper tracks have the same submission instructions, and the papers will undergo the same selection process, namely:

Submission Instructions

  • Follow the S B C Code of Conduct for Authors

    Authors must follow the Code of Conduct for Authors in S B C Publications.

  • Present Original Contribution

    Submissions must present an original contribution, not published in another forum, and not subject to review in other conferences or journals.

  • Declare the use of AI tools and technologies

    The use of Generative Artificial Intelligence tools and technologies for content generation, in the writing and/or revision of article content, must be explicitly declared in the work. To facilitate the location of this information, it is suggested that this declaration be in the “Acknowledgements” section.

  • Include an Ethical Considerations Section

    Authors must describe in a section entitled “Ethical Considerations” what were the ethical procedures adopted in research involving human beings , according to the Norms and Regulatory Guidelines for Research Involving Human Beings – C N S Resolution n.º 466/2012, Operational Norm 001/2013, C N S Resolution n.º 510/2016 and C N S Resolution n.º 674/2022 (for Brazilian research).

    The CAAE (Certificate of Presentation for Ethical Appreciation) must be omitted from the submission version when pertinent, due to the double-anonymous review. For example: “This project was approved by the Research Ethics Committee under CAAE (omitted for review)”.

    Other important aspects to check include:

    • Is the name of a participating volunteer presented in the text?
    • Are the images of people used anonymized?
    • Does the text contain the explicit “Ethical Considerations” section requested in this call?
    • Did the work involve stages with human beings, and does it obligatorily present the description of the approval of such stages by the competent national and/or international bodies?
    • Does the text explicitly outline the stages of conducting the studies with the participating people (e.g., recruitment, desired profile, risks, benefits, anonymity, non-remuneration)?
    • It is highlighted that the use of images of research participants should be avoided and, if used, a link to the authorization form of the participants or their guardians (in the case of minors or incapable individuals) must be provided and explicitly made available in the publication version of the article.

    In works where research with human beings was not conducted, the “Ethical Considerations” section must be filled with “Not applicable” or “Complies with C N S Resolution n.º 510/2016”.

  • Compliance with the L G P D - General Data Protection Law

    When the study involves the collection, use, or analysis of personal data, even if publicly available, the authors must also indicate the measures adopted for personal data protection , in compliance with the General Data Protection Law – L G P D (Brazilian Law No. 13.709/2018), describing, when relevant, the care adopted in the treatment of this data, such as anonymization or pseudonymization procedures and measures related to the storage, access, and security of the information. Images of minors or vulnerable people must be suppressed or properly anonymized in the text.

  • Ensure Accessibility in the Paper

    Strong attention to article accessibility is requested. Access the ACCESSIBILITY RESOURCES page for details on what needs to be done. Furthermore, it is highlighted:

    • Does the text feature accessible images, tables, and graphs?
    • Are there clear descriptions and captions for the cited items?
    • Is the language inclusive?
    • Is the P D F accessible?

  • Anonymizing information for double anonymized review

    The Full Papers Tracks adopt a double-anonymized review process. We recommend consulting the Quick Guide to Anonymous Submission: protect your identity correctly (only available in Brazilian Portuguese), published in S B C Horizontes, authored by Prof. Mirella Moro. Furthermore, we highlight:

    • Citations of related work by the authors themselves should be written in the third person. For example, you should write "the work of Silva et al." as opposed to "our previous work."
    • Links to repositories (such as GitHub) or to websites that identify universities, funding agencies, city names, and states should be anonymized.
    • If the submitted work is an evolution of a previously published work, it is possible to anonymize the reference in the submitted article. For example, "the previous work of Silva et al." should be adapted to "based on previous work [X]" and the reference at the end of the article can be presented as "[X] authorship omitted due to double anonymized review."

  • Include, if possible, references to works from the Global South

    Authors are invited to include, in the references of full papers, works by researchers from underrepresented groups and the Global South, including texts published in vehicles of the specialized Brazilian community in the area, such as the proceedings of previous I H C editions or articles from the Journal on Interactive Systems. .

    It is noteworthy that this is a suggestion aligned with policies promoting diversity in research, production, and the communication of knowledge in institutional spaces, but it is not a criterion for approving or rejecting submitted articles.

  • Associating Your Research with the Brazilian H C I Challenges

    Authors are invited to learn about the Grand Challenges for Research in Human-Computer Interaction in Brazil (2025-2035) and to evaluate the relevance of discussing their research in light of these Challenges:

  • Follow the recommended page count

    The papers can be written in English or Portuguese. It is suggested that papers submitted to the template be between 15 and 20 pages.

    Although the page count is not a criterion for rejection without review (desk rejection), the size of the paper will be evaluated in the review process and must be consistent with its contribution.

    Bibliographic references will not be considered in the analysis of the page count.

  • Confirm the article metadata correctly

    Changes to the language and the names of the authors will not be permitted after the article submission.

  • Use the correct Article Template

    For submission, the accessible one-column template available on Overleaf at this link or in a Word file at this link will be used.

    Make sure to use the correct submission template. The use of different templates or formats may result in rejection without evaluation (desk rejection).

SBC Accessible Article Template
  • Submit the article via JEMS

    Articles must be submitted electronically in P D F format, through the new version of the JEMS system (version 3) .

Review Process

  • The papers submitted for the three Full Papers tracks will undergo the same review process;
  • Papers will be evaluated by at least three reviewers from the Program Committee, selected by the Chairs of each Track;
  • For papers without consensus among reviewers after the 1st review, they will go through the revise-and-resubmit process. Papers whose common decision of the reviewers is favorable to rejection or acceptance will not go through the revise and resubmit process. The following explains:
  • Papers with all positive reviews will be accepted

    Papers that, after the 1st review and discussion period, have all reviews classified as Weak Accept and/or Strong Accept will be accepted and notified on the date of the 1st notification. The authors must consider the review comments to prepare the final version of the paper.

  • Papers with all negative reviews will be rejected

    Papers that, after the 1st review and discussion period, have all reviews classified as Weak Reject and/or Strong Reject will be rejected and notified on the date of the 1st notification.

  • Papers with both positive and negative reviews will be invited to revise and resubmit before the final decision

    The remaining papers will be invited to participate in the revision and resubmission process, and the authors will be notified by email. The authors will have access to the reviews and may argue and respond to the indicated questions before the final acceptance or rejection decision. To do this, the authors of each submission must perform the tasks listed below.

    • Submit rebuttal text. Submit the rebuttal text in the specific field on the submission page in JEMS, limited to unformatted text of up to 7,000 characters;
    • Submit a revised version of the paper. Send a revised version of the paper indicating the changes (e.g., yellow highlighting or text written in blue or red) in P D F format and following all previously defined submission instructions;
    • A new analysis and final decision will be sent. After a new analysis and discussion by the reviewers, the papers will be accepted or rejected and notified on the date of the 2nd notification.
  • Rejected papers may be invited to other tracks

    Papers that are rejected for publication in the Full Papers tracks may be invited for publication and presentation in the Posters and Demonstrations Track .

Questions can be sent directly to the chairs of each Full Papers Track: Innovative Ideas and Emerging Results, Research, and Experience Reports.

Review Responsibility Policy

Collective Commitment to Peer Review

Peer review is the cornerstone of I H C. It depends on the community reviewing each other’s work with care, expertise, and integrity. For the system to be sustainable and fair, the responsibility for review must be equitably distributed. The premise is simple: the process only works if those who submit also review.

Therefore, IHC 2026 will adopt the following responsibility guidelines:

  • Responsibility Requirements. All authors with a doctoral degree must indicate their availability to review articles in the track of the submitted paper. This review responsibility must be indicated in the submission form in JEMS, and the person responsible for the submission must indicate the names of all authors with a doctoral degree. It is not permitted to indicate the names of people external to the submission;
  • Review Exemptions. If no author meets the minimum experience requirements for review (e.g., undergraduate students in their first submission), the exemption must be declared and justified at the time of submission. Furthermore, medical emergencies or unforeseen circumstances that prevent completion of the review after submission must be communicated to the Track Chairs immediately;
  • Review Quality and Deadlines. Authors are expected to contribute reviews within the deadline and that meet the expected quality standards, avoiding generic, single-sentence, or purely AI-generated reviews without human curation;
  • Consequences. Failure to comply with review responsibilities (including non-delivery) may result in the submitted paper being rejected without further evaluation (desk reject).

Publications

Accepted articles will be published in the event’s proceedings, which will be openly available on SOL/S B C.

Best Papers

The selection of the best articles from the Full Paper Tracks will follow the steps available in full on the page: BEST PAPERS AWARD PROCESS (coming soon).

The authors of the best papers may be invited to submit an extended version in English, with at least 35% original content, to the Journal of the Brazilian Computer Society (J B C S) or Journal on Interactive Systems (JIS).

Presentation

The presentation of papers during the event will be held in person. The chairs of each track will email the authors with the details, including the maximum presentation duration and slide templates.
