IHC 2026

Call for Submissions

The Posters, Demonstrations, and International Papers Track is an important forum at IHC where members of academia and industry can present work in progress through posters, demonstrate interactive computing systems relevant to HCI, and share knowledge through papers on Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) accepted or published in international journals or conferences. Submissions should align with the conference’s topics of interest.

The Posters session is intended for the presentation and discussion of work in progress, at an early or intermediate stage, that does not yet have consolidated results but is relevant to the HCI field and its community.

The Demonstrations session is intended for the presentation of interactive computing systems of various kinds, either under development or already completed, that are relevant to HCI and its community. These may include, but are not limited to, new design solutions, new interaction styles, smart environments, Internet of Things solutions, Augmented and Virtual Reality, games, interactive digital art, and related topics.

The International Papers session invites authors who wish to present work accepted or published in international journals or conferences and bring it closer to the Brazilian HCI community, increasing its visibility among people working in the field, both in Brazil and abroad.

Across all sessions, submissions are welcome from authors who seek constructive feedback from active members of the HCI community in Brazil.

Submissions for Posters and Demonstrations

Submissions must be anonymous, between 2 and 4 pages long, excluding references, and must follow the formatting specified in the SBC template. Authors must follow the anonymization instructions.

Authors must also follow the SBC Code of Conduct for Authors in Publications.

In addition, we strongly recommend that authors consult the SIGCHI Guide to an Accessible Submission and the guides available on the website of UNIRIO’s Accessibility and Usability Group (NAU).

Changes to the submission language or to the list of authors will not be allowed after submission.

Authors must submit their work electronically, in PDF format, through the JEMS 3 system.

Submissions to the Posters session are expected to include:

  • A clear and explicit statement of the contribution and originality of the work: What is the problem? How can your proposed approach help address it? How does your approach relate to existing ones?
  • A focus on the contribution of the work rather than on theoretical background, including only enough theoretical grounding to make clear how the work differs from existing research.

For Demonstrations, in addition to the items listed above, submissions must include:

  • A description of the system and its scientific and/or technological contribution, including its social and HCI-related impacts.
  • Submissions to the Posters and Demonstrations Track may be selected based on the significance of the problem addressed or on the originality of the proposed approach.

If a demonstration is accepted, the track chairs will contact the authors to gather information on the setup required for the presentation, including the space needed, devices the authors intend to bring, audience interaction, and other relevant details.

Submissions for International Papers

For International Papers, the selection criteria are:

  • Works accepted or published in 2025 or 2026;
  • The relevance of the work’s contribution to the Brazilian HCI community;
  • Works accepted or published in international journals with a rigorous review policy based on full-paper review by an editorial board of recognized standing in the field, and that have not yet had the opportunity to be presented to the Brazilian HCI community. Examples of venues include: TOCHI, TACCESS, Interactions, Interacting with Computers, Behaviour & Information Technology, International Journal of Human-Computer Studies, International Journal of Human-Computer Interaction, and UAIS;
  • Works accepted or published in the Journal on Interactive Systems (JIS), provided that they are not extended versions of papers previously published at IHC;
  • Works accepted or published in high-quality international conferences with a rigorous review policy based on full-paper review by a program committee of recognized standing in the field, and that are relevant to the Brazilian HCI community. Examples of venues include: CHI, CSCW, CUI, IMX, ECSCW, NordiCHI, Interact, EICS, IUI, DIS, ASSETS, W4A, and CHI PLAY.

Authors must submit their work electronically as a single PDF file through the JEMS 3 system. The submission should include all the items listed below, in free format:

  1. Title: This may be the same as the title of the accepted/published work;
  2. Abstract: This may be the same as the abstract of the accepted/published work;
  3. Publication venue: Full reference in ACM format;
  4. Link to the original paper: A valid link to the accepted/published original work;
  5. Why would you like to present this work to the HCI community?
  6. Has any work related to this project already been published at Brazilian events?
    If so, please specify. This information will not be used for disqualification. Rather, it will help identify works or projects presented at early stages that have not yet been continued by the Brazilian community.
  7. Original paper: The original paper, in PDF format, must be merged with the file containing the description of items 1 to 6 above.

Important: Authors are responsible for ensuring that the submission does not infringe the copyright of the accepted/published work.

Final Version

  • After acceptance, authors may optionally submit an extended abstract of 2 to 4 pages, excluding references, following the SBC paper format, for publication.
  • Since the main goal is to give visibility to these works within the Brazilian community, accepted extended abstracts must be written in Portuguese.
  • If the authors consider it appropriate, the extended abstract may include new results from the project.
  • Authors must follow the SBC Code of Conduct for Authors in Publications.

If the authors choose to submit the extended abstract for publication, it will be published in the IHC 2026 Extended Proceedings in SBC OpenLib (SOL).

Review Process

Submissions will be reviewed by at least two members of the IHC 2026 Program Committee. In cases of substantial disagreement or inconsistency between reviews, a third review will be requested. If the submission is accepted, authors should take the reviewers’ comments into account when preparing the final version of the paper.

Presentation and Publication

At IHC 2026, selected works will be presented in a dedicated session that addresses related topics, the methods used, experiences with the submission process, reviewers’ comments, and other relevant aspects.

Authors of papers published in international journals and conferences are expected to contextualize their work during the presentation session, fostering discussion and shared learning. Through this format, we aim to promote the dissemination of these works and encourage exchange about submission and review processes in international venues. All accepted works must be presented at the conference, even if the authors choose not to publish the extended version.

Accepted papers will be published in the IHC 2026 Extended Proceedings, indexed in SBC OpenLib. At least one author must register for the event and present the accepted work in person during the conference’s collective, interactive exhibition. Posters and demonstrations will be presented during the event according to the conference schedule.

Information about procedures, recommendations, and resources available at the event will be provided at a later date.
