The Federal University of Minas Gerais is located at the area of Pampulha. The university is close to the UNESCO World Heritage Site known as the Pampulha Modern Ensemble (Conjunto Arquitetônico da Pampulha). The area has a number of hotels and restaurants.

The city is served by the Tancredo Neves International Airport (Confins – CNF). The airport has direct international flights to Houston, Orlando and Fort Lauderdale (USA), Lisbon (Portugal), Panama City (Panama), Santiago (Chile) and Buenos Aires (Argentina). The airport is also connected with numerous domestic flights with Brazilian hubs such as São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, with international flights to all continents.
