IHC 2025

Call for Full Papers

The Brazilian Symposium on Human Factors in Computing Systems (IHC) is the main national event in the area of Human-Computer Interaction. In 2024, it had an H5 of 13 and is growing rapidly. It is an event classified by CAPES in stratum A3 in the four-year period from 2017 to 2020.

There are three Full Paper Tracks: Experience Reports, Innovative Ideas and Emerging Results, and Research. In 2025, these Tracks follow the same calendar and it will not be possible to exchange between them after submission. Therefore, authors are requested to read and analyze the specific information for each Track and submit their work to the most appropriate one.

The three Full Paper Tracks have the same instructions for submission and the papers will go through the same selection process, namely:

Submission Instructions

Follow the S B C Code of Conduct for Authors

Authors must follow the S B C Code of Conduct for Authors in Publications. Read the Code carefully. Furthermore, it stands out:

Present an original contribution in your paper

Submissions must present an original contribution, and not be published in another forum or subject to review in other conferences or journals.

Declare the use of AI tools and technologies

The use of Generative Artificial Intelligence tools and technologies for generating content, in writing and/or reviewing the content of papers, must be explicitly declared in the work.

To make this information easier to find, it is suggested that this statement be placed in the “Acknowledgements” section.

Include an Ethical care Section in your paper

Authors must describe in a section entitled “Ethical care” which ethical procedures were adopted in research involving human beings, following the Norms and Regulatory Guidelines for Research Involving Human Beings – CNS Resolution No. 466/2012, Operational Norm 001/2013, CNS Resolution No. 510/2016 and CNS Resolution No. 674/2022 (for national research).

The CAAE, when relevant, must be omitted in the submission version, due to the double anonymous review. For example: “This project was approved by the Research Ethics Committee under CAAE (omitted for review)”.

  • Other important aspects to check include: Are no names of volunteer participants presented in the text?
  • Are the images of people used anonymized?
  • Does the text include the explicit section on “Ethical Concerns” requested in the call for papers?
  • Did the research involve a stage with human beings, and a description of the approval of such stages by the competent national and/or international bodies is included (Remember: protocol numbers must be anonymized in the submission version)?
  • Does the text explicitly state the stages of conducting the studies with the participants (recruitment, desired profile, indication of risks, benefits, anonymity, non-remuneration, for example)?
  • It is important to note that the use of images of people participating in the research should be avoided and, if used, a link to the authorization form of the people or guardians (in the case of minors or incapacitated persons) should be explicitly stated and made available in the published version of the article.
Follow the General Personal Data Protection Law (LGPD in Brazil)

Research that involves the processing of personal data for academic purposes must follow the specific rules of the General Personal Data Protection Law (L G P D, Law nº 13,709/2018).

Ensure Accessibility of the Paper

Attention to the ACCESSIBILITY OF THE PAPERS is strongly requested. Visit the accessibility resources page for details on what needs to be done. In addition, the following stand out:

  • Does the text present accessible images, tables, and graphs?
  • Is there a clear description and caption for the items mentioned?
  • Is the language inclusive?
  • Is the PDF accessible?
Anonymize information for Double Anonymous Review

Full Paper Tracks adopt a double anonymous review process. It is recommended that you consult the Quick Guide for Anonymous Submission: protect your identity correctly, published in SBC Horizontes, and authored by Profa. Mirella Moro. Furthermore, it stands out:

  • Citations to related work by the authors themselves must be written in the third person. For example, you should write “the work of Silva et al.” as opposed to “our previous work”.
  • Links to repositories (such as GitHub) or websites that identify universities, funding bodies, and names of cities and states must be anonymized.
  • If the submitted work is an evolution of a published work, it is possible to anonymize the reference in the submitted paper. For example, “the previous work by Silva et al.” should be adapted to “based on [X] prior work” and the reference at the end of the paper may be presented as “[X] authorship omitted due to double anonymous review.”.
Include, if possible, references to papers from the Global South

Authors are invited to include, in the references of full papers, works by researchers from underrepresented groups and from the global south, including texts published in vehicles from the Brazilian community specializing in the area, such as the proceedings of previous editions of the IHC or papers from the Journal on Interactive Systems.

This is a suggestion that aligns with policies to promote diversity in research and in the production and communication of knowledge in institutional places, however, it is not a requirement for approval or rejection of submitted papers.

Relate your research to the Challenges of HCI in Brazil

Authors are invited to learn about the Grand Challenges of Research in Human-Computer Interaction in Brazil (2025-2035) and to evaluate the relevance of discussing the research in light of these Challenges.

Follow the recommended number of pages

Papers can be written in English or Portuguese. We suggest that papers have between 15 and 20 pages in the submission template.

Although the number of pages is not a requirement for rejection without evaluation (desk rejection), the size of the paper will be evaluated in the review process and must be consistent with its contribution.

Bibliographic references will not be considered in the analysis of the number of pages.

Confirm paper metadata correctly

Changing the language (idiom) or name of the authors after submitting the paper will not be permitted.

Use the correct Submission Template

For submission, the one-column SUBMISSION TEMPLATE will be used, which will be available soon.

Make sure you use the correct submission template. The use of different models or formats may result in desk rejection.

Submit your paper via J E M S

Paper must be submitted electronically in P D F format, using the new version of the J E M S system (version 3).

Review Process

  • Papers submitted to the three Full Paper Tracks will go through the same review process.
  • Papers will be evaluated by at least three reviewers from the Unified Program Committee to be chosen by the Coordinators of each Track.
  • For papers in which there is no consensus among the reviewers after the 1st review, they will go through the review and resubmit process. Papers whose common decision by the reviewers is in favor of rejection or acceptance will not go through the review and resubmit process. Explained:
  • Papers with all positive reviews will be accepted.

Papers that, after the 1st review and discussion period, have all revisions classified as Weak Accept and/or Strong Accept will be accepted and notified on the date of the 1st notification. Authors must consider review comments to prepare the final version of the paper.

  • Papers with all negative reviews will be rejected

Papers that, after the 1st period of review and discussion, have all revisions classified as Weak Reject and/or Strong Reject will be rejected and notified on the date of the 1st notification.

  • Others will be invited to review and resubmit before final decision.

The remaining papers will be invited to participate in the review and resubmission process and the authors will be notified by email. The authors will have access to the reviews and will be able to argue and answer the questions indicated, before the final decision of acceptance or rejection. To this end, the authors of each submission must:

  • Submit the text of the reply

    Submit the text of the reply in the specific field on the JEMS submission page, limited to plain text of up to 4,000 characters;

  • Submit a revised version of the paper

Submit a revised version of the paper indicating the changes (for example, yellow marking or text written in blue or red) in P D F format and following all previously defined submission instructions.

  • A new analysis and final decision will be sent

After new analysis and discussion by the reviewers, the papers will be accepted or rejected, and notified on the date of the 2nd notification.

  • Rejected papers can be invited to other tracks

Papers that are rejected for publication in the Full Papers Track may be invited for publication and presentation in the Posters and Demonstrations Track.

Questions can be sent directly to the coordination of each Full Paper Track: Experience Reports, Innovative Ideas and Emerging Results, and Research.

Publication

Accepted papers will be published in the event proceedings, which will be available at SOL/SBC.

Awards For Best Papers

The process for choosing the best papers from the Full Paper Tracks will be available soon.

The authors of the best papers may be invited to submit an extended version in English, with at least 35% original content, in the Journal of the Brazilian Computer Society (JBCS) or Journal on Interactive Systems (JIS).

Presentation

Papers presentations during the event will be made in person. The coordination of each Track will send emails to the authors specifying the details, including the maximum duration of the presentation and slide models.
